Why I Give - For the next few weeks we have invited families, alumni and staff to share their reasons for giving. Thank you for your continued support. What is your why? Laurel Wade and Matt Yost have a 5th grader Wes and a Kinder Damian. Matt is also one of our classroom Assistants and Laurel serves on the Anser Board working on the resource development commitee. We are grateful for their support as parents, employees, board members and volunteers! “We give to extend the walls of my kid’s classroom into our community through field work and adventure. We give to enable Anser to fulfill its mission of educating the whole child. We give because treasure is the easiest way for me to contribute in this season of life.” Thank you Laurel and Matt! |

Spotlight on EL Education! Combining different grade levels enhances the educational experience! Working together is beneficial for both older and younger students. Increasing the feeling of community and crew, offering leadership opportunities, and opening up the possibility of projects that might need more guidance than one teacher can offer. 2nd, 3rd, 7th and 8th grade crews worked with the Golden Eagle Audubon Society on their Boise River Rewild Project. This cross grade collaboration enabled Anser to begin work on our 2 plots along the Boise River in Marianne Williams Park. We are looking forward to a continued commitment to restoring the land. Thank you to Kelly, one of our 2nd grade crew leaders, for spearheading this important project! And to Becky, one of our Middle School crew leaders for working with the 2/3 crews to make it happen! Thank you to all the parent and Community volunteers, this work wouldn't happen without an amazing volunteer force! |

We are crew! All 4/5 Crews participated in a fun simulation in their expedition about US History. Check out these videos of crews debating! Learn more about this simulation from one of our 4/5 Crew Leaders Nicole from her most recent newsletter. "Students continued to learn about laws and events that led toward the American Revolution. They read a newspaper opinion published in 1765 against the Stamp Act and discussed the strong word choice and message of the author. The Boston Massacre occurred in 1770 when a colonist in Boston began jeering at a Commons House guard. Others joined and began throwing ice and rocks. The colonial crowd grew. British soldiers arrived, the the conflict ended in gunfire with 11 colonists dead or wounded. News of this event quickly spread, in part as propaganda. Defenseless colonists had been attacked by British lobsterbacks! The colonists were further separated politically to support the king and his policies as Loyalists, or to support self governance as Patriots. When the Tea Act was passed in 1773, Patriots were angry that only seven merchants in Boston could sell tea, and all of them were Loyalists. When a shipment of tea arrived in the Boston Harbor, colonists had to decide what to do with the tea. Should it be unloaded (and taxed) or should it be sent back to England?" |

A request from Jess, our K-5 Curiousity Lab Leader! HEAR THE BELLS? THAT'S TINY TOY WORKSHOP FLYING OUR WAY! Tiny Toy Workshop transforms the Curiosity Lab into a maker space where kids create their very own tiny toys. It runs from after Thanksgiving Break to Winter Break and is super popular. How can you help with this fun activity? I'm so glad you asked! 1. Start saving up a stash of tiny things that would maybe have gone in the trash- plastic bottle lids, twist ties and corks are some favorite supplies. Your student can bring these items in the week before Thanksgiving Break. (Not before that please as storage space at school is limited.) We love using repurposed materials! 3. Send me (Jess) a Quality Art or an Amazon gift card marked "Tiny Toy Workshop" to purchase glue sticks, bells, chenille stems, popsicle sticks, googly eyes, buttons, etc. It's amazing how fast these little creative gremlins can go through materials! Thanks to all for your ongoing support and I look forward to seeing all your kiddo's mini-masterpieces! Jess, Curiosity Lab Leader (jmcginnis@ansercharterschool.org) |
