4/5 Black hawk adventure at Gowen Field

4/5 has spent the year making trips out to Gowen Field to STRABASE, a program that teaches Idaho students Science, Tech, Engineering, and Math! This week for their trip they learned all about military helicopters, and how they are operated! They even got to see skilled pilots fly and flip them mid air!

Planting Flowers for Pollinators

This Spring semester, 2/3 is studying pollinators, and habitats! They have already learned about different species who pollinate, and after a visit from the Land Trust of the Treasure Valley they also learned about conservation. This past week, with the help of some parent volunteers, 2/3 planted lots of Idaho native species, and flowers which are very important to our community pollinators. There will be some very happy bees this spring and summer!

Ukulele Jams!

While Anser doesn't have an official music teacher, one our 1st Grade Crew leaders finds a way to bring music to her classroom! Jess is pictured here with her Crew strumming on her ukulele and singing about plants. Currently, 1st grade is studying life cycles of plants, and even growing their own seeds! What a perfect way to solidify these students' learning, through music!

Spring Celebration-Masks Optional

The Covid Response Team approved optional masking at the Spring Celebration. The event will take place indoors and outside, the gym doors will be open for good ventilation and we are managing gathering size by hosting two sessions of the event, from 12-3 and 4-7. This an adult only event. We hope all of our parents will attend, and make the masking choice that is right for themselves and their family.

Family Council needs you!

Anser’s Family Council  supports the education program of the school, develops a strong family community and  serves as  conduit between parents and the school administration for communicating parental ideas and concerns. Family Council supports the school with the Back to School Picnic, parent/family social events, provides feedback on policies and procedures brought to the committee, and supports volunteerism within the school. Family Council meets one time per month, August-May, with occasional additional meetings for subcommittees. Elections will be held to add new Family Council members in May.  If you would be interested in learning more about serving on Family Council, please reach out to Family Council President Dave Nelson at vandalfan@gmail.com.

Transportation Update

At its March 15th meeting, the Anser Community Board voted to start an independent transportation program. This vote came after a second year of receiving no bids from local transportation companies to provide the service. Anser staff have secured two buses and are building the necessary processes  to begin providing transportation in the fall. More details about routing and a survey to understand the transportation needs of our families will be sent in the next month. Anser families can help us get this program off to a good start by contributing to  the Fill-A Need at the Anser Spring Celebration. All funds raised in this year’s Fill-A-Need will be used to support the startup of the Transportation program, and to pay for using the buses for Fieldwork  and Adventure next school year. If you, or anyone you know  has a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and would be interested in learning more about being a bus driver for Anser, please contact Anser’s Site Manager, Steve Womack at swomack@ansercharterschool.org
