We are looking forward to our next Art Exhibition Kinder, 1st and 6th Grade Art Exhibition: Tuesday, Dec 12th, 5:00-6:30pm. Open house style, come when you can between these times with your child and let them take you on a tour of their work and the work of their peers. We are so excited to share our hard work with you. For this project the kindergarten and first grade crews learned about pop artist, James Rizzi. James Rizzi said “I do not like to draw from life, but I like to draw from my memory and imagination.” With that being said, students looked at multiple bright and colorful works depicting happiness, joy, and love. Kindergarten focused on drawing a Rizzi-inspired bird with its own personality. Students used sharpie, oil pastels, and watercolor paint to create their own quirky bird. First grade students focused on drawing a Rizzi-inspired building with the option of giving it a fun face. First grade students used the same materials and experimented with putting watercolor over the oil pastels; a resist painting or “ghost” drawing. |

Spotlight on EL Education! We are so grateful that we were able to send staff to national EL Education conference last week. Nadia, Kindergarten Crew Leader and Alli, a 3rd Grade Crew Leader, shared some of their takeaways with us. "One significant realization I gained from the experience is that I'm exactly where I need to be! It reinforced the notion that EL (Expeditionary Learning) is not just a curriculum but a mindset. The synergy of both elements is essential for effective EL implementation.
Another key takeaway for me was the recognition that students are capable of much more than we often perceive. Emphasizing the use of student work, examples, and their voices is incredibly vital. As educators, relinquishing control can be challenging, but the outcomes—both the final product and the learning journey—become significantly more impactful, meaningful, and enjoyable for both students and teachers when students actively participate in discussions about their own learning." - Alli Brady
"Going to the National EL conference in Denver was a heart warming and inspirational experience. Meeting like minded educators who believe in Expeditionary Learning and what it can bring to a child's life felt like meeting family. I left the conference understanding the philosophy of EL on a much deeper level and embracing it even more. As a crew leader in a play based/EL Education kindergarten program I was especially inspired by the Power of Play seminar!" - Nadia Rezanovich |

We are Crew! We have had a couple of very impactful moments for our 7/8 crews and our 1st grade crews. As part of our 1st grade crew Community Expedition their fieldwork takes them all over our city! Crews were able to meet with City of Boise planners and Mayor McLean at City Hall. This gave our crews more insight into planning and zoning which will help them as they start to collaboratively build a crew Box City. Thank you to all of our community partners for engaging with our learners. 7th and 8th graders, as part of a study of Human Rights, did some fieldwork at the Wassmuth Center for Human Rights Anne Frank Memorial. The docents were wonderful and led crews through an informative and enlightening tour of the outdoor memorial. Another powerful example of Anser's commitment to connect learners with their field of study. Did you know that Boise has a sapling from the chesnut tree that Anne Frank saw from her window? https://www.cityofboise.org/departments/parks-and-recreation/parks/idaho-anne-frank-human-rights-memorial/ |
