We are Crew! AMS crews have been working hard. 7th and 8th graders participated in Solutionary Projects leading up to winter break.
Their guiding questions were: What in the world is unfair? Why do we need solutionaries and solutionary thinking? How can I create a project to have an impact?
Thinking critically about the root causes of real world problems encouraged learners to look at the problem with a solution based mind frame. They then worked on designing and executing a project with an authentic solution to a problem they care about.
Crew members reached out to our community and interviewed, connected and toured to develop and identify solutions and how they can instigate change. A few examples of projects include; making and delivering food to a downtown shelter, creating a small aquaponic system, tour of the landfill to learn more about recycling and the lifespan of a city landfill. They also had insightful conversations about beauty standards, electric vehicles and domestic violence.
Anser staff all chipped in by transporting, opening up kitchen space, chatting, putting them in touch with personal contacts and in general being enthusiastic about the process!
