The Anser Community is helping in the restoration of important habitat along the Boise River as part of the Boise River ReWild Project. We are the stewards of two plots along the Boise River in Marianne Williams Park. The native seedlings, planted by students and volunteers last year, will need some ongoing care this year to thrive.

Kelly Selvage, one of our 2nd grade crew leaders, is leading our Adopt-a-Plot team and is looking for volunteers to help weed, water and tend to our ReWild area. There are two Saturday volunteer opportunities coming up on March 9th and May 11th. Sign up here! Thank you!

Spotlight on EL Education 4th and 5th graders visited the Capital this week. They were able to meet and listen to a presentation by the Chrief Justice of the Idaho Supreme Court in action, see the Governor's office, tour the capital, hear from Representative Chris Mathias and see the legislature in action! This fieldwork aligns with their current expedition.

The Power to Change Expedition - Students will analyze the cultural and political development of the United States. Our journey will begin with a study of Indigenous People of the eastern part of North America and move into how the colonization of North America changed their lives. Students will explore the guiding question "Who makes the rules?" as they examine the Native Americans’ loss of land, the role of slavery in colonial America, and the colonies' quest for independence from Great Britain. Our investigation of regional differences, industrialization, the Underground Railroad, abolitionists, and national identity will frame our understanding of the causes of the Civil War. Students will learn about our government structures and how American history continues to influence current events and cultural values.

2nd Trimester AMS Art Exhibition: February 20th - February 23rd

Our 3rd art show of the year was another great success!

A note about our journey…

Many of us have religious or ethnic cultures that strongly influence our values and our daily behaviors. As we broaden our exposure to many cultures and their representation through the arts and artifacts, we become more aware of our own culture(s) and the richness of representation there. Multicultural art can be used to promote understanding and respect for different cultures. This type of art also has an important role in promoting mutual understanding and respect between people of different backgrounds.

In the Stories Expedition we examined our own personal cultures and learned about some of the folk art of Mexico. We grappled with the freedom to learn and create as we navigate the complexities of exploring other cultures while treating someone else’s journey with honor and respect.

Thank you to Anne and all of the students and families that continue to support Art at Anser!
